We are seeking a full time individual to work in our produce department and in the front end of our vibrant community-owned grocery store (32-40 hours/week).
Produce Assistant: Assisting in maintaining the department to meet goals of fresh, attractive product and stellar customer service.
Front End Clerk: Provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, full-stocked, and orderly condition.
*The position may be split into two PT (roughly 16-24 hours/week) positions, one for Produce and one for Front End.

I. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
A. Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to
other staff when necessary.
B. Wow customers with a high level of prompt, friendly, and helpful service!
C. Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
D. Help customers place special orders.
E. Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer
unresolved questions or problems to appropriate staff.
F. Encourage non-owners to join, explain benefits of ownership and sign up new owners, ensuring
complete information on application.
G. Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
H. Demonstrated understanding of products and terms such as organic, fair trade, etc.
I. Be an ambassador for customer needs across the store.
A. Greet customers, smiling and making eye contact.
B. Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
C. Call for back-up as needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
D. Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customers if they need assistance. For those
needing assistance, carry out groceries or call other staff if available.
E. Balance cash drawer at end of shift. Open and close out registers following established
F. Put stuffers in bags, inform customers of specials, membership meetings and upcoming store
G. Issue credits to customers for returned items following co-op policy, and ensure that returns are
properly disposed of. Records shrink promptly and accurately.
H. Alert manager on duty to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies.
A. Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves.
B. Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock.
C. Check backstock when stocking.
D. Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing.
E. Label items accurately with price tags or signs. Report price discrepancies to buyers.
F. Notify buyers of out-of-stocks.
G. Help with receiving deliveries and rotate overstock into storage.
H. Restock, straighten and water produce displays, and close produce for the night following
IV. STORE MAINTENANCE
A. Clean up spills, remove trash promptly, break down cardboard for recycling, sweep and mop floor.
B. Keep shelves, coolers, bins and backstock in clean orderly condition. Dust and clean shelves and
product when stocking.
C. Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures. Advise appropriate manager of

E. Participate in periodic inventory counts.
F. Maintain front end in clean, orderly condition.
V. OTHER DUTIES
A. Attend all-staff meetings and Sales Staff Meetings.
B. Perform task outlined in the daily checklist.
C. Perform other tasks assigned by managers.

Status: Reports to Produce Manager
As Full-time position combined with front-end clerk: Pay Level 3
As stand-alone Part-time position: Pay Level 2
I. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
A. Perform front-end duties as scheduled or needed (cashiering, bagging, special orders, opening,
closing, drawer counts, cleaning, etc.)
B. Wow customers with a high level of prompt, friendly, and helpful service.
C. Use perspective-taking to understand and improve the customer experience.
D. Co-create a department that is inspiring to shop.
E. Offer tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare products.
F. Maintain proactive communication with Manager and other staff.

I. Practice continuous improvement.
A. Replenish, rotate and rearrange displays following stocking priorities.
B. Trim, wash, bundle or otherwise prep produce for sale.
C. Display fruits and vegetables, following 5 Rules of Merchandising
D. Prepare and display samples for customers.
E. Cull displays as needed, sorting products with established guidelines.
F. Ensure accuracy of signage. Create signage as needed or instructed.
G. Adjust prices as needed or instructed.
A. Receive deliveries, checking for accuracy and reporting quality issues.
B. Rotate product in and out of proper storage conditions as needed for stocking.
C. Prepare and submit credit requests and/or orders in absence of manager.
D. Perform inventory counts as needed for financial accounting or ordering.
IV. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
A. Maintain produce cases, walk-in, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting
health department and USDA Organic standards.
B. Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floors as requested.
C. Maintain store equipment/tools in working order. Monitor cooler temperatures. Advise
Manager of equipment repair or replacement needs.
D. Maintain safety awareness; know own physical limitations. Lift carefully and correctly.
F. Handle hazardous equipment carefully and deliberately, return knives to storage position to
avoid unintentional injury,
High School diploma or GED.
Enthusiastic and interested to work in a natural foods co-op.
Dependable and communicative. Regular, predictable attendance.
Able to work a variety of shifts including weekends and evenings.
